Janeuary is a Kyiv, Ukraine-based alternative composer and singer who has just come to my attention through her latest single release. Recorded with some famous Ukrainian classical musicians, it’s called Awakening.

Opening slow and contemplative, Awakening is a track that eases you in. It brings together the classic and the modern seamlessly, and is beautifully tied together by Janeuary’s charismatic vocals. Swells of strings heighten the emotion of its poetic, romantic lyrics and things end strongly with a captivating and cathartic crescendo.

Awakening was recorded at Kyiv Sound Studio, and was mixed and mastered by Andriy Kravchenko. Its video was shot at the Kyiv National Botanical Garden and features Maksym Oschepkov. You can give it a watch below.
