Boston, USA-based singer songwriter Maya Salafia first featured on this blog in 2022 as part of Jane’s Female Voice round up. Now I’m pleased to have a chance to share some of her music.
By Graeme Smith
Maya has been composing pop music since the age of nine and has been releasing it since thirteen. Her talent has scored her a place at Berklee College of Music, which she’ll be attending in the autumn.
Her new track Swim is all about finding yourself with an unexpected crush, and the thrill and emotion that comes with it. The feeling is brought to life through a vibrant indie pop arrangement and some captivating, soulful vocals. Though its lyrics go deep, they are tempered by a bright and breezy instrumental that hits its full stride during a slow-building and cathartic crescendo.
Swim was produced by Brad Young at BKY Studio and Owen Korzec, who also played all the instruments on the track. You can give it a listen below.
