Lanessa Long is a singer, songwriter and comedian originally from Oregon, USA and now based in Brooklyn, New York. She’s just come to my attention through her latest single Cool Creature.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re play-acting as a human being then Cool Creature is the song for you. In her attempt to reconcile herself with her physical form and metaphysical thoughts, Lanessa Long has made a deeply relatable track that touches on some of those topics that are often overlooked when talking about mental health.

Though Cool Creature is an instantly striking track, it was the line “people love it when you struggle but not when it’s happening” that really got me. It perfectly articulated something I’ve often thought myself. It’s a lyrical gem lying in a scattered bed of them. Lanessa is probably one of the strongest wordsmiths out there in the world of music. I’m going to be keeping a close eye out for more releases from her.
