Sage Colton Baker is a Dallas, USA-based indie pop rock artist who has just come to my attention through the release of his latest single, Double Down.

A true solo project, Sage records his music in his house in Carrollton, drawing on the sound of the 2010s and what he’s seeing coming out of the Texas music scene. His new single Double Down is also something of a personal one for him as he uses it to deal with some of the childhood trauma that came from his parents splitting up.

The track hits you instantly with a groove and its heavy subject matter is lightened by a funky indie pop sound. Sage has previously released melodic rap music and there’s still a little bit of that flavour in Double Down. It all adds up to make something that is reassuringly familiar yet provocatively fresh.
