Hays Dowdy is an alternative rock artist and multi-instrumentalist based in Washington DC, USA who has just released his debut single Inside the City.

Describing himself as an “omnivert,” Hays’s music reflects this personal dichotomy. Inside the City is a song of contrasts, with quiet verses nestled in between raucous pop choruses. It makes for an interesting mix, and his way with words in the lyrics is the icing on the cake. They tell a descriptive story that’s rich with emotive imagery. All the while, a persuasive groove spreads among the instrumental, and will have you moving along during its high points.

As a debut, it’s incredible, and Hays Dowdy is a name that I’ll be keeping an eye on.
