Camila Knight says hello and goodbye with the release of her second EP

Indie and bedroom pop artist Camila Knight is a new artist for us and on the strength of her newly released EP Spacetime, I’m certain we’ll be featuring her music more.

By Graeme Smith

Inspired by the likes of Joni Mitchell, Ella Fitzgerald and Björk, Camila is a unique artist that brings together singer songwriter sensibilities with elements of electronica and pop. Her debut EP Uplifted landed in 2022 and was warmly received by her ever-growing community of fans.

As a collection, her new EP Spacetime explores themes of soul-searching, self-worth, heartbreak and, ultimately, letting go. Across five emotionally poignant tracks, she opens up and creates a compelling story. Tied into it all is symbolism, drawing from science fiction and fantasy to create a cosmic backdrop for her very human tales.

The EP opens with no need to say goodbye and we get the immediate emotional impact of Camila’s captivating vocals and cinematic sound. Things hit a pop groove, and you can’t help but move along, before the track arrives at a powerful crescendo. It’s a strong start.

Journey is a slow and pleading moment with some powerful rise and fall. Lyrically, Camila bears her soul in a vulnerable verse before things explode into life in the chorus. Satellites provides a smouldering mid-EP highlight. Rumbling bass supports a dance beat and image-laden lyrics.

The EP is then rounded off by the well-crafted duo Gone Away and Lavender Fields. The former gives us some rich production and a big memorable chorus while the latter, released alongside the EP today, sees Camila save the best for last. Introducing some indie rock elements, it opens melancholic before we see her push her vocals in a chorus that’s full of longing.

Spacetime is a striking introduction for us to an artist whose music I’m certainly looking forward to getting to know better. Her relatable lyrics, pop sensibilities and irresistible charm means she’s got the whole package.

Featuring on the EP are Freddy Lane, Jorge Gándara and Isaiah Jose (on Lavender Fields). It’s partly self-produced by Camila (Gone Away and Lavender Fields), and was mixed and mastered by Mike Dwyer and Ian Barter (Satellites). Spacetime is out now and you can give it a listen below.
