When I first started compiling this review, my focus was mostly on the techno sub-genre of dance music. However, whilst perusing the internet, I stumbled across a lot of additional artists performing music from the wider EDM movement. I decided to incorporate these artists into this round-up review, curating a playlist that fans of dance music across the board should get a kick out of. Check out the full playlist at the end of this review if you’re into your EDM!

Virtual Jasper – Mellotron
Copenhagen artist Virtual Jasper is fairly young, but his music already sounds incredibly accomplished, posing great things for his future in the industry! Mellotron is a song that kicks ass from the very start – it’s full of energy, with a pounding beat and bassline that is matched in intensity by the waves of synths that work their way through the track. The music drops down every so often, cutting the rhythm section out whilst the keyboards take centre stage, before ramping the tension back up again into something incredible.

NIORIC – Bright Side
NIORIC is an enigmatic artist on the electronic scene, creating anthemic techno songs with a euphoric vibe. Bright Side is a really funky sounding piece of music – the beat is steady throughout, making you want to dance along instantly. The synths bubble around in a gorgeous way, rising up several times into a glorious crescendo before they return again to their original movement. About halfway through the song, the dynamics swing higher and higher, allowing the synths to finally unleash their full potential, providing a satisfying experience all round.

GIDE – So merry, summery!
The curiously titled So merry, summery! is quite a suitable name for GIDE’s addition to this list, as it certainly has a warm feel to it. The synths that open the track up have more of an old-school 80s sound, creating something very unique in the world of techno. Multiple keyboard layers intertwine with one another, making this the sort of track you’ll have to listen to a few times over to fully appreciate. However, it never sounds too busy, instead turning the tune into a relaxing number, suitable for listening to after a long hard day at work!

Lotte BMFee – Friday Night
On Friday Night, Lotte BMFee teams up with DJ Herr Wolf, ensuring a tune that is as quirky as it is catchy! There’s something very 80s/90s pop about the whole thing, with a little Latin American flair also thrown in for good measure, crafting one of the most experimental tracks on this entire list. The bass is really prominent in the mix, throbbing along with the beat and the synths, as a flurry of vocals repeat the titular refrain over and over again. If you like your EDM a little different from the norm, this might be the track for you!

Paul Roux – Lazy Sunday
Lazy Sunday is another collaboration, seeing French producers Paul Roux and In Anima team up in glorious style. It’s a fairly minimalist sounding track at first, seeing a whole host of intriguing keyboard effects slowly appear in the background against the drums, creating a suitable atmosphere for the tune. However, don’t let the subtle nature of this song fool you, as Lazy Sunday is a fascinating piece of work, with more and more synths added over time. This is another relaxing tune, conjuring up evocative images in the mind on the very first listen.

Kate Pending – Soma Sequence
Soma Sequence is a track from Kate Pending’s newly released album Pigmented Reality, combining elements of electronica and an entire array of other EDM genres into one. The keyboard melodies are really reminiscent of the electro-pop movement, dancing around in the forefront of the music in a really catchy way. There are some recorded spoken vocals that appear at times, adding to the cool atmosphere of the track, but the focus always remains on the music, resulting in one of my favourite pieces on this entire list!

Tonylight – KKUCI
KKUCI is another genre-bender of a tune, taken from Tonylight’s seminal album, Lumanoide. Tonylight focuses on creating music with an experimental vibe, using their quirky tones for good on this piece. The bassline sounds absolutely huge, pulsating through the track in an amazing way, carrying the main hook of the tune with it. The drums and synths follow the bass in perfect timing, keeping the energy raised high throughout this killer track. As mentioned previously, it does have a fairly avant-garde sound, but give KKUCI a chance and you might have found your new favourite song!

Allegra – Love You Right Back
It’s been a while since we last shared new music from Allegra – this time around we have an Alok Remix of the track Love You Right Back. The remix sounds absolutely fierce, combining the talents of both artists in an amazing way. Allegra’s vocals sound as epic as ever, showing exactly why she’s become so beloved in the dance scene in recent years. The synths absolutely pop here, having an urgent quality that mixes well with the fast pace of the drums. It’s the sort of track that would sound epic at a rave or nightclub, so make sure you don’t miss out on this killer tune!

Davide Randazzo – Voyager
Voyager delivers a deep and entrancing soundscape, expertly curated by Italian producer Davide Randazzo. The bass pulsates along in perfect timing with the drums, as the synth layers build up slowly. Suddenly the music drops away, progressing into a stripped-down, melodic section, combining some cool piano chord with a range of keyboard melodies. The music builds back up again, turning the track into a piece of music with a triumphant and epic quality, tugging at the emotions of the listener. This is another must listen from me!

Tony Shamanski – Incendiary
Last, but by no means least, is Tony Shamanski with his track Incendiary. It’s perhaps more of an old school house track, but I still felt it fit within this review, as it’s well worth a listen for EDM fans! The beat is fast and frantic, whereas the bassline and synths are funky, adding a cool groove to this tune. A range of intriguing keyboard and synth effects are placed throughout the track, keeping the listener constantly awaiting the next movement. Tony Shamanski is clearly an extremely talented producer, and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next time around!
