Italian collective Andrea Pizzo and The Purple Mice take on the topic of the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence in their single The Machine.
By Graeme Smith
A moody beast, The Machine opens with a swirl of electronica and snatches of spoken word before passionate vocals come in. The moodiness doesn’t let up, even as the instrumental expands. Lyrically, we are treated to some psychedelic poetry, and commentary on our reliance on technology. It all adds up to a darkly atmospheric track that is utterly compelling through its hypnotic nature and bright electro pop sensibilities.
At its heart, The Machine is a think-piece and it shows an intellectual depth often lacking in the world of modern music. If you’re looking for something different to listen to today, then you should start with this track.
The Machine features on the band’s album Transhumanity. You can check out its video, created by Raffaella Turbino, and listen to it via Spotify below.
