Kate Pending has only just released her debut album, and yet it already sounds incredibly accomplished! Pigmented Reality is the name of the record, and it’s a suitably apt title considering the spacey, electronic melodies on offer here. If you like your electro-pop a little different to the norm, this could be for you!

You recently released a new record titled Pigmented Reality. What can you tell us about the album?
Pigmented Reality is my debut full-length album, released in May of this year. The record features 12 original tracks and 3 remixes from VOID LOOP ( ) and Iron Curtis. It blends various genres, including breakbeat, deep house, techno, and downtempo, all infused with an electropop slant.
With this album, I wanted to create something that isn’t just about sound, but also incorporates storytelling to evoke an emotional response. I aim to invite listeners into an eclectic yet cohesive electronic world, where the music weaves a cinematic flair with a dark futuristic narrative filtered through a pop lens.
How has the reception to Pigmented Reality been so far, and where can it be purchased?
The reception to Pigmented Reality has been great so far. Listeners have commented on the album’s blend of genres and the emotional depth of the tracks. The positive feedback has been encouraging, especially for a debut release. It’s also been really rewarding to see music sales. It’s a nice feeling to know there are people who don’t just want to stream the music but want to own it.

Do you have any singles planned for release from the record soon?
All the singles from Pigmented Reality have already been released, alongside the album itself, but a DJ mix of the album that I put together is now also available on Soundcloud via Sexy Dinosaur From Outer Space – SNDNS414. It was a great opportunity to explore new ways to present the tracks, seeing which fit together well and which elements overlapped nicely to create a dynamic listening experience outside of the album format.
Have you started writing for your next full-length release, or is it too soon?
I have started sketching out ideas and experimenting with new sounds for my next release. While it’s still in the early stages, I’m excited about the direction it’s taking, and I can’t wait to share more as the process unfolds.
What is the writing and recording process like for you?
Ableton Live has been instrumental in my music production journey. From the very beginning, its capabilities allowed me to experiment freely and bring my ideas to life. My process usually starts with finding an intriguing synth sound or creating an ambient soundscape. From there, I build up basic drums and progressively layer more complex rhythms and melodies. I enjoy playing with different parameters and techniques to shape the sound until it feels right. I often let the synths
guide the direction of the track, adding elements like basslines and vocals as the piece evolves.
Your music has a unique electronica sound. What/who are you most influenced by? What have you been listening to recently?
Thank you! I love trying to create distinct sounds by blending ethereal elements with gritty textures and weaving melodic sequences with rhythmic intricacies. I’ve always been drawn to artists who push boundaries and create immersive experiences through their music. Artists such as Moderat, Bicep, Four Tet and Grimes have all influenced my creative journey. Recently, I’ve been exploring more underground artists and vibes to keep my inspiration flowing. This continues to shape my sound and push me to explore new possibilities in my own productions.
Where are you based? What is the local music scene like in your part of the world?
I am currently based in Berlin, a city that has profoundly influenced my music and creative process. Berlin is renowned globally for its electronic music culture, from legendary clubs to cutting-edge producers shaping the scene. The vibrant and diverse electronic music here has exposed me to new sounds and styles, fueling my creativity and pushing me to experiment more boldly. The city’s culture of artistic freedom and innovation has allowed me to explore deeper and more varied
musical expressions. The change in environment has also provided me with new opportunities for collaboration and growth, which I really cherish.
Do you have anything else exciting coming up over the next few months?
Absolutely! I’m currently working on a couple of exciting collaboration projects, as well as creating new tracks, and hope to have some new music to share later this year.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
At the moment, I don’t have any tour dates confirmed for the UK. However, I’m always open to the idea of performing live and connecting with fans in person. Keep an eye on my social media and website for any announcements about upcoming shows or tour dates!
