Fire Signs is Emma Roellig‘s debut EP and captures the whirlwind of emotions that come from heartbreak and grief, finding its way to positive closure.

Opening slow, stripped-back and meditative, We’re Just Kids introduces us to Emma’s emotional, storytelling sound. Musically, it’s a mix of country, Americana and acoustic pop and there’s plenty of atmosphere created by the instrumental. What stands out most, though, are the lyrics. Emma paints a powerful picture with them, mixing the personal with the circumstances of the wider world.
The EP contains three previously unreleased tracks – Miles Away, Sacrifice and Overflow. Respectively they give us stripped-back Americana, lush fragility, and devastating sad pop.
Miles Away is a slow-building and intimate number that tells the story of heartbreak, separation and emotional unavailability. Sacrifice, reinforces this melancholy with a tale of self-destruction and a longing for closeness. Its chorus is wonderfully cinematic.
Overflow rounds off the EP with a dreamy acoustic moment which is understated with its catharsis. It gradually builds to a suitably climactic finish.
Emma shows us so much of her world in the five tracks of Fire Signs. Each are beautifully penned, with lyrics that will stick you and cause the hairs on the back of your neck to stand up. Each story is told powerfully by her expressive vocals and a range of instrumentals that reinforce its every feeling. This EP is simply stunning.
Fire Signs was written by Emma and was produced by Rob Enea. It’s out now and you can check it out below.
