Originally featuring on this blog in 2022, it’s been a while since we’ve featured music from New Zealand’s Voodoo Bloo.
By Graeme Smith
Around this time two years ago, we featured Voodoo Bloo’s album The Blessed Ghost on these pages, and Jane was so taken with their music, she even posed them some questions in a Q&A.
Fast-forward to 2024 and they’re back with a new single and video. I Don’t Want This Scene To End was written in the wake of their friend and bassist Ollie leaving to live on the other side of the world in New York, USA. It has a suitably bittersweet sound, celebrating friendship while also mourning the need to say farewell.
Opening with a relentless, repeating note and some looping percussion, there’s an instantly hypnotic feel about the composition of the track. Passionate and characterful vocals paint a vivid, debauched picture of friendship in the verse before things become explosively cathartic in the chorus and the track’s climactic finish.
I Don’t Want This Scene To End is out now and you can check out its video below.
