Brock Davis shares with us some philosophy of his life on the road and beyond with latest album Everyday Miracle.
By Graeme Smith
Brock is a modern country singer-songwriter born near Vancouver, Canada and now based in Santa Cruz, California, USA. His life and his music is influenced as much by Jack Kerouac’s On The Road as Springsteen’s Born In The U.S.A.
In his upcoming album Everyday Miracle, the word “miracle” is not used in so much as a religious sense, but rather an “agnostic gospel” as Brock calls it. You get the sense of it right away through the album opener and title track. Brock’s confident vocals deliver introspective lyrics that hint at something bigger out there that’s yet defined. All the while, a rousing country instrumental provides an emotional tapestry.
Keep On is rich with encouragement and folk, rock and gospel sentiments. Make A Family slows things down for its raw and vulnerable story of trying to enter parenthood. Rain Falling On The Water rounds off the early listening with a gentle acoustic moment full of captivating imagery.
From there, Brock cements things with tales of nostalgia, complex relationships and power imbalance. Brock covers just about every part of modern society with this album, from the personal to the political, all told with relatable detail. It Takes One is a rousing call to action while Give Forgiveness is a stirring tale of moving on from someone else’s self-destruction. Ready For A Good Time shakes it all off with a swaggering dance number before My Promise To You closes the album brightly, delicately and with love.
Everyday Miracle was recorded at Nashville’s Backstage Studio and produced by Brock with Grammy winning engineer Zach Allen who also mixed it. It features the talents of session musicians who have worked with Bob Seger, Tim McGraw, Stevie Nicks, Blake Shelton, Lori McKenna and Eric Church, among others.
The album is available now as a CD and digital download and is set for release on streaming platforms on 26 July 2024.
