New Music: Steyl – Moonlit Garden

We’ve not featured Swiss duo Steyl for a while, so it’s great to welcome them back with Moonlit Garden.

By Jane Howkins

The composer duo have created something glorious in new piece Moonlit Garden – it actually might be one of my favourite Steyl songs yet! Like the rest of their music, it belongs firmly in the classical canon, having a very string heavy sound. The cello is particularly haunting here, adding a luscious background to the piece, as the beautiful piano chords play away against the rest of the music. It’s a really thought-provoking piece, and one I can’t stop listening to – maybe you’ll feel the same way!
