Remy Lazz‘s latest EP sees him exploring recurring emotions. It’s called Never-Ending.
By Graeme Smith
I previously reviewed Remy’s album Movin’ On in March this year and now he’s back on the blog with his new EP Never-Ending. Written post-divorce, it sees him raising kids and trying to find himself in a chaotic world. Cleverly, it’s composed to be played on loop, reflecting the spiralling emotions in which it was written.
The EP opens with its title track and the level of emotion we’re going to get from the collection is immediately apparent. The vocals are passionate, delivered against a backdrop of grungy rock. A brooding verse gives way to a powerful chorus that urges you to throw yourself around.
Everything’s Changin’ brightens things with a groovy moment that will have you nodding along. Its lyrics are rich with imagery and philosophy as they grapple with the realities of life. Top Of My Lungs keeps things lively in a driving number with a punchy, singalong chorus. It’s a highlight.
Can’t Even Speak mixes things up with a slower, soul-searching track before Ruin Everything provides the perhaps the EP’s poppiest moment. Either Way is dark and full and frustration. Just Because It Ends closes the album with a sense of hopefulness. It strikes a reflective tone while it gives us some of the collection’s most memorable lyrics. It’s a final highlight.
Never-Ending is an EP that takes on some weighty topics but it’s overall feel is that of catharsis. It’s a feeling that can only be achieved through rock and roll, and Remy is clearly well-versed in the genre. His new EP is one for lovers of the classics.
The EP is out now and you can check it out below.
