Fast becoming a favourite of mine, Petty Drama is the second track I’ve shared from Nashville, USA’s pop rock starlet, GRAVA.
By Graeme Smith
Inspired by a combination of Fiona Apple and Trent Reznor, you can expect two things from GRAVA’s music. One is a penchant for observant storytelling with her lyrics, and two is a sound quite unlike anything you’ve heard before.
Her latest Petty Drama is based on her personal experience of mean and dramatic people. The drama is brought straight from the off with some operatic organ before we get some more conventionally pop vocals. They are wonderfully expressive in the verse before launching into an attitude-filled chorus that will stick with you. The instrumental is pleasingly textured throughout, but the star of the show is certainly GRAVA’s voice.
Recorded in Nashville with co-writer and producer Christian Clark, Petty Drama is out now. You can listen to it below.
