It’s been over a year since we last shared music from Australia’s Athena Joy and a new post about her feels long overdue. Her new single gives us vibrant dark pop and is called MY WAY.

Opening low and brooding, plenty of space is given to Athena’s charismatic and compelling vocals in the first verse before the instrumental builds to a dramatic full arrangement. It stays driving through a memorable chorus which speaks of finding yourself in the dark and is full of optimism. I had chills.

I wasn’t surprised to learn that the track was a semi-finalist in the Listen-Up songwriting prize this year – it’s a beautifully constructed song. Athena describes it as her “favourite song [she has] ever worked on” and the love comes through strong.
