LA teen Edie Yvonne drops debut EP

We’ve made no secret of our love for teenage singer songwriter Edie Yvonne‘s music. It’s been appearing on our pages for over a year, and now we get a taste of her first EP, Girl Code.

Much of the tracks we already know and love appear on Girl Code, including 15 (When I Leave), Delusion, Queen Bee and title track Girl Code. As such, it feels like a familiar collection already, and beautifully showcases what Edie has to offer despite only being fifteen years old.

What she does offer is a heady mix of pop and rock, told with the authentic voice of someone who is living through the drama that comes with our teen years. Her charming vocals emote every note, while we get plenty of big riffs, catchy choruses and attitude-filled lyrics. Psych rock moments like Delusion contrast nicely with the floating electronica of Queen Bee. Title track Girl Code ends things strongly with its devastating, cinematic pop.

Alongside the previously released tracks, we get two new ones – 2U and Duh. The former is a bracing punk pop titbit that breathlessly concludes in just over 90 seconds. The latter is a laidback RnB moment with an infectious groove and dreamy, layered vocals.

With her debut EP, Edie is showing her range and her refusal to be defined by genre. It works because of her charming vocals and ear for a melody. If you’re not ready for your sad girl summer to be over, then you need to check out Girl Code.

If you happen to be in Los Angeles, you might be interested to know that Edie will be launching the EP at The Mint tonight.

Girl Code was produced with Nicky Swedin & Cormac Liotta. It’s out now and you can give it a listen below.
