Interview: Ingo Nasse

German sound designer Ingo Nasse is a fairly new discovery of mine, having shared his music for the first time in July. His track Jarred Jungle really caught my attention – it’s an EDM song with an experimental, post-punk sound, making for something really unique! Find out more about Ingo and his music below!

You recently released a new single titled Jarred Jungle. What can you tell us about the song?

I wanted to combine jungle beats with synthesizer sounds like those of Jean Michel Jarre. It was really just an experiment – the track wasn’t made with the intention of having a classic “arc.” I started working on it years ago but never had the courage to release it. In the meantime, I’ve been able to apply some new techniques I’ve learned from my recent synthwave releases.

How has the reception to Jarred Jungle been so far, and where can it be purchased?

This track seems to generate very different reactions among music listeners and creators alike. I receive either very good feedback or bad, though the latter often includes constructive criticism. The track can be found on almost all streaming platforms. Additionally, all my single releases are available on Bandcamp where you can support me directly.

Do you have any more singles planned for release soon?

I’ve been working on a cyberpunk/synthwave EP for some time now. The opening single Enforcer will also be the title track of the album. I hope to release it later this year. Here’s a small teaser.

Are there any plans to release an album or EP anytime soon?

Due to two bereavements in my family, I haven’t been able to work on the aforementioned EP Enforcer as usual. However, I will resume work on it very soon. You can find information about my music and releases on my Instagram profile.

You’ve worked as a sound designer on a few projects. Do you have anything else on the go at the moment?

I enjoy being creative and am experimenting with motion design and the music for it. Additionally, my ongoing project is www.particular-sound.de – a sound design company founded and run by Frank “Xenox” Neumann and myself. We constantly work on sample libraries, virtual/sample instruments, and synth presets.

Your music has a unique EDM sound. What/who are you most influenced by? What have you been listening to recently?

I believe my influences are quite mixed. From Kraftwerk, Jean Michel Jarre, Depeche Mode, Erasure, to techno, trance, house, and electro artists from the 90s to the 2010s. Even today, I listen to a wide range of music. Recently, I’ve been listening to a lot of synthwave and darkwave, as well as classical music and jazz. Music must have melodies.

You’re based in Germany. What is the local music scene like in your part of the world?

I’m proud of the former electronic and techno scene here. In Cologne and its surroundings, there were numerous large and small clubs offering ACID, techno, and dancefloor music during my youth. There were also many private techno parties. I was never really drawn to major events like Mayday. I preferred smaller to medium-sized clubs and events. My “going to the club” days are over. Now, I focus on making music!

Do you have anything else exciting coming up over the next few months?

I think my upcoming releases will be the most exciting thing. At least I’m enjoying being able to work creatively again.

Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?

Sorry, unfortunately, nothing is planned.

Any last words for the fans?

I hope my music brings you joy and I wish you all the best of luck and, above all, good
health
