Vienna, Austria-based “SonicWaveArtPop” act Lucy Dreams releases their distinct take on Arctic Monkeys’ classic Do I Wanna Know?
By Graeme Smith
Consisting of members Zero, One and Lucy, Lucy Dreams are winners of XA Music Export Award 2024. They’ve proved to be something of a revelation live of late. They made a splash at Waves Festival in Vienna before embarking on a successful tour across the Atlantic in Canada. It’s through their take on a distinctly British track that they’ve hit our radar.
The reason the band have taken on Arctic Monkeys’ track Do I Wanna Know? is because of their relationships with Sheffield. Lucy Dreams simply adore the Yorkshire city, and how better to pay homage to it by a tribute to some local legends?
Their version of Do I Wanna Know? is very different from the original, bringing atmospheric electronic pop to its emotional story of uncertainty and overfamiliarity in love. What Lucy Dreams haven’t lost is its iconic riff and sense of moodiness. It’s difficult to breathe new life into a well-known track while not losing its essence, but Lucy Dreams have done it.
Do I Wanna Know? is out now and you can give it a listen below.
