It’s been awhile since I last shared music from British hyperpop artist Coupdekat, but my love for her original style has never waned.
By Graeme Smith
Real name Katherine Reilly, Coupdekat’s music has been appearing on this blog since 2021, and I even managed to catch her perform live at Leeds Festival last year. With an irresistible charm, fresh sound and relatable lyrics, she’s one of the most exciting artists on the UK scene.
Her latest single cdjs sees her return to these pages for the first time in over a year and it’s worth the wait. With a nostalgic vibe and plenty of ambience in its instrumental, the single is a dreamy, varied wonder. Katherine’s vocals are beautifully compelling and provide a soft and organic anchor to its electronic instrumental. The stand out feature, though, is the lyrics of the chorus, which are wonderfully witty.
Cdjs is the first single from Coupdekat’s upcoming EP, the world she created / inside of her pocket* set for release early 2025. It’s out now and you can give it a listen below.
