Absinthe Green get spicy with new cover single

Athens, Greece-based metal act Absinthe Green give a rock twist to a Spice Girls favourite with new single, Viva Forever.

The words “metal” and “Spice Girls” can’t often be found in the same sentence, but perhaps they should be based on what Absinthe Green have done with the ’90s band’s track, Viva Forever. The gentle ballad which featured on the girl group’s second album, Spiceworld, gets the head-banging treatment in this new release.

It’s the second track of Absinthe Green’s that we’ve shared on this blog, following on from 2022’s Give The Devil His Due, and shows a very different side of their sound. Echoing guitar sets the scene, giving traces of ’80s hair metal, before things arrive at a bluesy groove which reimagines the original. Its wistful lyrics take on a different tone through Eirini’s passionate vocal delivery.

Viva Forever was produced by Eirini ‘Absinthe Green’ and was recorded by Geegor of Abyssal Productions, Vena Cava Studios, Athens, Greece (with the exception of the drums which was recorded at Made in Hell Studios). The single it out now and you can give it a listen below.
