Meander through the world of Sadie Campbell and her debut album

Nashville’s Sadie Campbell takes us on a scenic trip thanks to her debut album, Metamorphosis.

By Graeme Smith

Originally hailing from Canada, Sadie now calls the musical mecca of Nashville home. Travel plays a big part in the concept of her debut album, promising to take us on the sonic equivalent of a road trip. This means a meander through different genres, moods and emotions.

The journey kicks off with the brooding, soul-searching What Love Can Do. An acoustic guitar riff sets the tone before Sadie’s powerful vocals come in. There’s a sense of reluctant optimism about its lyrics and its chorus is beautifully stirring. It’s a strong start.

Anxiety Gets Me takes an introspective turn during a track that builds through its first verse to a cathartic chorus. Saved is bluesy and soulful while Keeping Space is an anthemic alternative rock wonder. Put Your Worry Down rounds off the early listening with a hazy alternative pop highlight.

Getting Older sits at the heart of the album giving us delicate vulnerability and philosophical lyrics. Title track Metamorphosis brings some bright, encouraging defiance before Even If We’re Lost delivers some vibrant reflection. Second Chance takes things in a moodier direction during a moment of self-doubt. Let Loose then shakes it all off during a lively country rock number. A surprise sax solo proves a highlight. Leave It All Behind closes the album with a quiet, poignant point of honesty that climbs to a big finish.

Sadie Campbell is a beautiful singer, and her debut album shows she has plenty to say with her song writing too. Her mastery of different genres makes her a force to be reckoned with.
