UK rapper Mr Macee looks back at the joy and struggles of childhood with new single, Red Pea Soup.

The Birmingham-raised Mr Macee previously featured on this blog through his gentle and moody track, Real World.

His new single sees him pairing up with producer Gabriel Waves to reflect on his childhood. Its story is anchored by his nana’s red pea soup, which lends its name to the track’s title and its theme of finding something to keep you going during the trials and tribulations of growing up.

Opening gentle and jazzy, a percussive beat kicks in. Big bass pairs nicely with smooth bars that simply ooze with nostalgia. Mr Macee’s lyrics really are second to none.
