Charlotte & Magic return to our pages after six years with pacifist anthem, Flower Fighter.
By Graeme Smith
The work of Paris, France-based act Charlotte & Magic has appeared once before on this blog but it was way back in 2018. At the time, Jane was intrigued by their video, I Don’t Wanna Go. How’s their new stuff holding up?
The answer: pretty darn good. Their latest single Flower Fighter takes us on a cosmic journey, marrying ethereal synth with earthly bass. A percussive groove runs through it all while echoing vocals set the emotional tone. It’s a little bit pop, a little bit psych, and wholly undefinable.
A track written in 2014, during the “Gaza War,” there are obvious echoes to today. Ultimately it’s a story of pacifism but one that appreciates the nuances of the concept.
Here’s hoping it won’t be so long before we’re sharing more of Charlotte & Magic’s music!
Flower Fighter is out now and you can give it a listen below.
