I first discovered Romanian pianist and composer Andrei Irimia at the tail end of last year. Around a year on, we’ve finally got some brilliant new music to share from this amazing artist, and the wait really has been worthwhile, if Fragments is anything to go by. It’s a unique piece that sounds like nothing else out there at the moment, which is definitely a good thing in my eyes!

Fragments is a piece that changes rapidly as the music progresses, opening up with a pretty little piano motif that will work its way inside your head on the very first listen. It’s got quite a positive sound, flowing nicely as the tempo speeds up, before the piano suddenly turns into an organ later down the line. The organ changes the themes and sound of the piece immensely, adding a great wealth of emotion into the track, making for something really haunting to behold. The orchestral stringed instruments are used well in this section, adding a nice backbone to the track that never takes away from Andrei’s powerful performance.
The piano emerges once again, backed this time by the orchestral elements, seeing both parts of the song rise up into a gorgeous crescendo of sounds that will have you feeling something in no time. Fragments really is a testament to Andrei’s musical prowess, and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next time around!
