Interview: Brother Vice

Irish indie rock band Brother Vice have a real talent for creating indie songs with anthemic hooks, such as their stand-out tune, Money. It genuinely is one of the best things they’ve ever written, so I wanted to find out a little more about Brother Vice and their delectable song. See how we got on below!

Review by Jane Howkins

You recently released a new single titled Money. What can you tell us about the song?

It’s a song about dreams and possibilities. A lot of us, at one time or another, have had the thought… “If I had the money”. Money is not only a personal song for the band, but a song we hope many others can relate to.

Money has an indie rock sound. What/who are you most influenced by when writing the track? What have you been listening to recently?

Since the days of the pandemic, we have been tweaking and adjusting our songwriting and playing style, culminating in the overall sound you hear in Money. The boys and myself have such wide ranging influences anywhere from pop to metal and anything in between, so to be able to filter all that and end up with a connected sound that we love is a gift. We have some strong connected loves of artists like Sam Fender, The Killers, Foo Fighters and Catfish and the Bottlemen.
We are currently listening to Wunderhorse.

How has the reception to Money been so far, and where can it be purchased?

The reception has been excellent so far. We’ve already received a tonne of radio play, reviews and interviews from the release date. You can get it on all the major music platforms, Spotify/Apple Music/Amazon/YouTube. You can also check out the video for it on all our socials.

The track was produced by Neal Calderwood at Manor Park Studios. What was that experience like?

We’ve recorded most of our tracks at Manor Park Studios and always have a great experience. It’s a great place to let the creative juices flow, and the finished product is always spot on.

Do you have any more singles planned for release soon?

Yes, we just recorded two more singles in mid-October and will be putting a plan together soon around release dates.

Are there any plans to release an album or EP anytime soon?

I’d say there’s definitely plans for an album at some point over the next year or two. Were currently just focused on recording some more singles and doing live gigs for the time, being but album discussions will certainly be a part of 2025.

You’re based in Belfast. What is the local music scene like in the area?

Belfast has an abundance of great musical talent, there’s some great live bands to go see every day of the week.

Do you have anything else exciting coming up over the next few months?

The new singles, maybe a music video or two could be in the works, as we really enjoyed making the one for Money. We have a few gigs lined up throughout Ireland till the end of the year. We’ll start planning some tour dates for 2025 shortly also so keep an eye out on our socials.

Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?

We have a new gigs lined up over the next few weeks around Ireland. We don’t have any tour dates yet, but this is something we will be looking at in early 2025.

Any last words for the fans?

Thanks for all the support and we’ll hopefully see ya soon!
