Discovery: Australia’s Pri James showcases her style with debut EP

Pri James gives us our first taste of her compelling pop-rock with debut EP, Ellipsis.

By Graeme Smith

An Australian singer-songwriter based in Sydney and originally from Queensland, Pri James has been writing and performing music since childhood. She’s just come to our attention for the first time through her debut EP, Ellipsis.

Produced by Leon Berger from Hit Music Producers Inc, the EP gets going with its lead single Round and Round. We get an immediate taste of Pri’s soulful and compelling vocal during this emotional pop number. The imagery and vulnerability of its lyrics make it a memorable track, as does its suitably looping melody.

Get Down ups the drama with Pri giving plenty of passion in the vocal. Vibrant percussion is paired with electronic layers in its stirring chorus. Walls Down is a moody moment that slows things down in a soul-searching, heart-breaking ballad. A pacy chorus proves cathartic. Blue and Gold closes the EP in triumphant style. A slow-building first verse leads us nicely to a chorus that leaves it all out there.

Pri James has everything she need to join the parade of Australian pop legends. Her debut EP is but a small taste of what I’m sure she’s capable of. I’ll certainly be keeping a close eye out for future releases.

Ellipsis is out now and you can give it a listen below.
