Discovery: rising folk act Play Misty hit our radar with wintery single

Play Misty captivate us with image-laden new single, Winter in Bristol.

By Graeme Smith

A Bristol-based folk and Americana trio consisting of Ryan McMurtry, Sophie Jones, and I-Sha-Vii, Play Misty have been supported by Arts Council England and BBC Introducing in the West. They’ve just hit my radar through their latest single, Winter in Bristol.

At once I was struck by the imagery and storytelling of the track. The captivating lyrics are beautifully delivered by the vocals while acoustic guitar provide the atmosphere. Some sweet harmonies float in during a highlight of a chorus before playful woodwind joins the party.

Winter in Bristol was recorded on vintage reel-to-reel tape at Living Room Studios in Bristol. It was produced by Dan Weltman and mastered by Emily Magpie. The track is out now and you can give it a listen below.
