Nobody’s Wolf Child returns with her inimitable sound on her debut EP, Erbsa’s Songs Of The Sea.

One of our favourite artists, Nobody’s Wolf Child has been appearing on our blog since 2022. Now the British alternative folk artist is back through the release of her debut EP, Erbsa’s Songs Of The Sea.

The EP displays the typical storytelling style that we know and love, blending relatable emotion with fantastical imagery. It also elevates it, telling an extended tale across five tracks including originals and covers.

10,000 White Horses gets us going in an ethereal fashion. Delicate acoustic guitar supports ghostly layers and compelling vocals. The atmosphere is haunting, but it’s the poetry of the lyrics that really stands out. I found myself gripped by every word.

Selkie is a brooding folktale based on the legend of the “selkie,” a creature that can be owned if one takes her shedded seal skin while she’s in the form of woman. Nobody’s Wolf Child captures the subtext of the tale beautifully through her melancholic delivery.

Nobody’s Wolf Child takes on Tim Buckley’s Song to the Siren in inimitable style before Secrets and Seabirds strips things back for a devastating moment. The EP is then rounded off by an adaptation of the famous sea shanty A Drop of Stranger’s Blood. It’s suitably stirring as it tells the stories of sailors who might find themselves lost at sea among its many mythical creatures.

The originality of Nobody’s Wolf Child sound shines through in every note of her debut EP. We get five flavours of it that stay reassuringly cohesive and work well together to tell a wider tale. It’s simply beautiful.
