Based in Sheffield, Maximilian Tanner brings together the uncertainty of life with ’80s pop sensibilities in his single, Stray Dogs.
By Graeme Smith
Maximilian is a the former lead singer of Guildford’s BlackWaters and includes John Maus, Depeche Mode, Molly Nilsson and Alvvays among his influences. He’s new to our blog thanks to his latest track, Stray Dogs.
Opening with contemplative synth notes, Maximilian’s echoing vocals come in, telling us a tale of the uncertainty that comes with sudden change. There’s some striking imagery in the lyrics, but I think it’s the music that stands out most to me. It beautifully blends the ’80s and modern day and will appeal to lovers of the old school and contemporary alike.
Recorded in Sheffield, Stray Dogs was written and produced by Maximilian. It’s out now and you can give it a listen below.
