Discovery: Ecce Shnak

I’m always on the lookout for unusual music that’s different to the current mainstream pop norms, and I think it’s fair to say that Ecce Shnak falls into that category! The New York City-based group describe their style as ‘chamber-punk’, blending prog rock, metal, punk, math-rock, art-rock and choral anthems together, making for something that works surprisingly well!

Jeremy, Utilitarian Sadboy is the first song I’ve heard by Ecce Shnak, but I hope to share more from them in the near future, as it really is an amazing piece of work. They make the task of mixing genres sound incredibly easy, appealing to fans of different scenes and styles. The piece opens with a nice, flowing piano melody, before the killer guitar licks kick in, alongside the awesome choral vocals.

It reminds me a little bit of System Of A Down’s music, if that band decided to incorporate some symphonic metal into their sound (this is a compliment). That may sound like a weird descriptor, but give Jeremy, Utilitarian Sadboy a chance and you should understand what I mean – the music video is pretty eccentric too, so I highly recommend watching it below!
