Discovery: SNACK grapple with love in debut album

SNACK are a Danish duo who are new to our blog thanks to their debut album, Love & Other Drugs.

By Graeme Smith

The album explores the many dimensions of love from initial spark to messy cheating through an intricate blend of rock, pop and indie.

Things get started with From Here To Somewhere which canters along, giving us an emotional opening gambit. Its lyrics are full of philosophy during a brooding first verse before things become explosive during a powerful chorus.

Give You Up is a simmering effort that captures the light and dark of love beautifully. SNACK intends this album to show the listener a good time and this ethos comes through strongly in this track, especially after its groovy beat kicks in.

Mesmerized is punchy and electronic, and captures the hypnotic quality of love. Out of Love and One Night Only take things darker before Hope tempers the darkness with a stirring number. Crawling simmers with soul-searching. The Tide closes the album with a reflective story that’s enlivened by a pacy, bombastic instrumental.

There’s something reassuringly familiar about SNACK’s pop rock sound, but they are able to elevate the genre through some beautiful lyrical sentiments, soulful vocals and emotional instrumental arrangements. You’ll never hear love stories told so compellingly as you will in their new album.

Love & Other Drugs is out 21 February 2025. You can pre-save it here.
