Discovery: Camille Schmidt shows vulnerability with new album

XOXO was the first single taken from Brooklyn, USA-based Camille Schmidt‘s album Nude #9. The title is inspired by Camille’s experience growing up with nude models who would pose in her parents’ art studio. These paintings invariably received impersonal titles like Girl with Dogs #3.

For her, releasing music feels as vulnerable as those nude models must have felt, and we certainly get a stripped style from XOXO. Percussion and guitar (provided by Moses Somney/MK. Gee’s guitarist) gives us a minimal backdrop against which Camille’s distorted vocals play. The lyrics are rich with storytelling and youthful malaise.

Nude #9 is out now and you can give XOXO a listen below.
