A prolific songwriter, Frank Joshua‘s music has featured on our blog many times before, going back to 2022. I never miss a chance to review his unique take on dream pop.
By Graeme Smith
Most recently, I shared his track Danny Boy which used the traditional folk ballad as inspiration to tell a fresh story. I called it “his darkest and most introspective yet.” His latest single, Walls, lightens things a little without losing any emotional impact.
Walls, is about the complexities of aging and managing egos in a long-term relationship. Frank’s vocals are as soft and soulful as we’ve come to expect. They emote the track’s story compellingly while the music, which draws from traditional blues, gives us plenty of morose atmosphere. It’s the narrative of the lyrics that really stood out to me, though. With a laser focus on little details, I found myself mesmerised.
The track is accompanied by an animated video which feels beautifully intimate. It enhances the track skillfully.
Not resting on his laurels, Frank is promising a new release every eight weeks in 2025.
Walls was recorded in North London and Exeter, produced, as ever, by Tony White. It’s out now and you can give it a listen below.
