Myah turns to 2010s synthpop and classic cinema for varied new EP

Based in Los Angeles, USA, myah is an artist who’s face is becoming very familiar on this blog. We’ve been covering her music since May 2024, and shared four tracks by her last year.

While there’s is a recurrent theme of nostalgia across all her releases, myah brings something new with each one. It may be emo as with notice you, or singer songwriter heartbreak in flames.

Her latest EP, IS THIS WHAT I SEE?, brings them those various sounds together alongside previously unshared tracks with you, i’ll be your light, summer love, lost at sea, running and say it. All are inspired by the synthpop of the 2010s, blending in alternative rock, pop and storytelling song writing which lean heavily of some of cinema’s most memorable titles.

With you opens the EP in romantic style before i’ll be your light darkens the mood with a brooding number. Notice you provides a simmering and wistful highlight. Summer love is warm and laidback. Flames takes that record’s intimacy to the next level. Lost at sea gives us a moment of contemplation. Running is a simmering and textured slow-burner. Say it closes the EP in a ponderous manner, opening stripped-back and intimate before building to a cinematic finish.

IS THIS WHAT I SEE? was written by myah (with additional writing by Lina Cooper and David L. Herman) and produced by Brian Squillace. It was mixed by Noah Taylor and mastered by Jonathan Berlin with additional mastering by Reuben Ghose. The EP is out now, available to buy with a bonus prize via Bandcamp.
