The Trusted show range with evolutionary new EP

A rock band based in Southend-on-Sea, The Trusted have been appearing on our pages since 2022, earning places in Jane’s Monthly Favourites and Sedimentary Rock round-ups as well as an interview with her. I’ve shared a fair bit of their music too.

Now they’re back on our blog through their latest EP, Iridescence, a five-track collection that captures the evolution of the band’s sound. While they’ve been giving us the best of indie pop rock so far, the new EP shows range, including moments of punk and anthemic rock.

The record kicks off with The Lightning and it’s an emotional start. A move-inducing drumbeat sets things off before wistful vocals come in. Its hooky chorus proves an early highlight.

Overdrive (Switch Off) has a sultry emo pop groove while Self-Destruct is a raw, raucous and hedonistic moment. Miracle Face combines the soft ’80s rock of The Police with some surprise vocoder. Title track Iridescence closes the EP in dreamy fashion, slowly building to a climax of which U2 would be proud.

We’ve been fans of The Trusted on this blog for awhile now and each new release confirms that we’re right to be. They’re hardworking lads who have a sound that is ever changing yet also crowd-pleasing. I’m expecting a big future for them.

Iridescence is out now and you can give it a listen below.
