Chicago, USA-based band Koalra first featured on our blog through Jane’s In Your Dreams – Shoegaze round-up of December 2023. A month later, I followed that up with a share of their single, Something Fails.

Their latest, In A Weird Way, is a pacy effort that jumps in headfirst with edgy riffs, atmospheric layers and expressive vocals. In true shoegaze fashion, it creates an emotional wall of noise where the concrete is made abstract, finding a passionate climax in the chorus.

A band that are forever evolving their sound, I’m excited to see where Koalra will take it next.
