Edinburgh-based jazz singer songwriter Lorna Reid debuted on our blog in December 2024 through her single, Sweet Baby Blues. Now, she’s returning thanks to the album on which the track features, I Will Tell You A Story.

Sweet Baby Blues was, as I described in my review of it, a “track [that] instantly captured my attention” and had “intimate, storytelling lyrics.” It sits at the heart of Lorna’s new album, alongside ten other tracks that show the various shades of her inimitable jazz pop.
Paris in ’95 gets the album going in soulful style, telling a story of an unexpected reunion in vivid detail. I found myself captivated by its every narrative-rich line.
From there we get a varied collection, ranging from the slow and sultry (Pink Blossom, Sweet Baby Blues, Where’s The Fire) to the traditional and timeless (Pale Blue Glance, Souls For Sale, There For You Again.) Title track I Will Tell You A Story is a delightfully soaring and searching bluesy effort while Smash Gamble is a raw deviation into country rock. Dappled Lightness is image-laden and lingering. Tipping Point closes the album with some lively philosophy.
Lorna Reid’s new album is an accomplished collection that lovers of the traditional and modern will love. She’s got a killer voice and a way with words that makes her music top notch.
I Will Tell You A Story was produced by Boo Hewerdine and was recorded entirely in Lorna’s home country with support from Creative Scotland. Featuring alongside Lorna on the album are Louise Clare Marshal, Gustaf Ljunggrens, Euan Stevenson, and Konrad Wisniewski.
The album is out now and you can give it a listen below.
