Fronted and led by Craig Douglas Miller, Blueburst have been appearing on our pages since 2023. We’ve shared plenty of their music, and Jane has even interviewed Craig about the project. Now they’re back with a new remix EP, Kick My Tyres.
By Graeme Smith
The original single, Kick My Tyres, was released in 2023. Jane shared it to our blog along with its video. This new remix EP sees the track joined by three other distinct versions – a hard-hitting remix, an instrumental and a stripped-down ‘Nebraska’ take.
The Kick Mix, reimagined by Ben Etter, brings the drums of Michael Jerome to the fore giving us a powerful and anthemic opening to the collection. A swaggering, ’90s style grunge rock welcomes us through the door, and we stick around for the emotional storytelling of the lyrics.
The instrumental version allows us to get lost in the intricacies of its composition, in particular the guitar which proves hypnotic in the early running before becoming bold and bombastic as the track reaches its climax.
The Nebraska version goes lo-fi and raw. Recorded on vintage Tascam Portastudio 414 cassette four-track, it gives the track an immediate feel and brings its powerful lyrics to the fore.
Blueburst is an incredible project led by a musician that had to shake off years of doubt to get it up and running. His 2023 album Significance was a significant milestone, and remains to this day one of our most popular reviews. This new remix EP feels like a strong continuation of the project, giving us plenty of new dimensions to its sound.
Kick My Tyres is out now and you can give it a listen below.
