Kelsie Kimberlin entrances with poetic new track and video

We never seem to be too far away from a new track or video from Washington DC, USA-based alternative pop artist Kelsie Kimberlin. Two of her singles have already graced these pages this year, and now it’s time for a third.

By Graeme Smith

A Ukrainian artist who is making a name for herself through her passionate, political tracks, Perfume feels like a change of pace. Telling the story of an entranced lover, the track was inspired by the book and film of the same name.

While the track does not directly address Putin’s war like many of her others, the video for Perfume was shot in Kyiv while drone strikes continued to happen. In one poignant moment, the crew dined near to the building in which fifteen-year-old Mariya Troyanovskaya was killed in such a strike. Kelsie, who directed the video, has dedicated it to her.

Musically, the track gives us floating electronic pop punctuating Kelsie’s unique and characterful vocals. Her lyrics are captivatingly poetic, especially during a memorable chorus.

Perfume is out now and you can give it a listen below.
