Based over the Pennines in Manchester, Atlas Rivers are the latest Northern rock outfit to grace these pages.

I’m a little late to the party with their debut single, Towards the Sun, but when it came across my proverbial desk I thought it worth a share. It is, in many ways, a typical alternative rock song, but the band elevate the genre through their characterful vocals and razor sharp lyrics. The obligatory anthemic chorus hits nicely, and its philosophical story of how decisions split the world into alternate timelines will stick with you.

Atlas Rivers have released two more singles since Towards the Sun – The Vanishing and Revolutionary – and they’re all worth a play. You might just find your new favourite rock band if you check them out.
