It’s been a busy eleven months of releasing three full-length album for The Numb Project. The third of which is called A Space Between.
By Graeme Smith
Produced by Chris Calarco, A Space Between sees The Numb Project serve up twelve helpings of downtempo, hip-hop and lashings of atmosphere. It’s what we’ve come to love about his work.
Based in Portland, Oregon, USA, The Numb Project first graced our pages in June 2024 through his single Pull. While our paths diverged after that moment, I’m glad they’ve come together again.
His latest work broods with a sense of mystery right from its textured and nuanced opener A Monkst. Trip-hop blends with dub and electronica in an intoxicating mix which makes it an early highlight.
Other highlights include the quirky and cosmic Silverado in Dub, the shuffled and shuffling Split Width, the pleasingly percussive Empty Impasse, and slow-burning album closer Leaves.
The Numb Project really is the master of taking the ambient and making it interesting. It’s great to be able to get stuck into one of his longer works. Given how prolific he’s been recently, I expect the next one won’t be far away.
A Space Between is out now, available to buy as a digital album on Bandcamp. You can give it a listen below.
