Tackling themes of chaos, desire, rebellion and raw emotion, It’s more FUN in the DARK is the inviting debut album from MoulD.
By Graeme Smith
It’s really hard to do something original in today’s world of music. There’s often a weary sense that it’s all be done before. With his debut album, MoulD makes it look easy.
Blending alternative, nu-metal, trap and traditional Greek rebetiko, the Cypriot artist gives us twelve tracks that challenge, starting from the eerie atmosphere and big beats of album opener I don’t wanna be with someone that doesn’t wanna fuck me. From there it, doesn’t let up, hitting us with cUrSe. With growling vocals and edgy rock riffs, it’s an early highlight.
Other highlights include sludgy and expressive Don’t Miss me When I’m DeaD, the simmering and sultry team up with Amaya Ω, Blood Drips, the primal scream of The Sky Where We Collide, the textured and smoky To Vals Ton Gamimenon Oneiron, the genre-mashing Generation EnD, and low and lingering album closer The Sound Of My Last Day.
MoulD’s debut album is a cathartic listen, full of fire and emotion. He jokes that the album is “cursed” but I think it’s quite the opposite. It’s just what we need in an increasingly bleak world.
It’s more FUN in the DARK is set for release 16 May 2025. You can pre-order it on vinyl here.
