Matt Monsoor‘s track Sam’s Hill was originally written and released 25 years ago but has been given new life with an enhanced arrangement.
By Graeme Smith
Monsoor penned the track after moving back from Los Angeles, USA to La Crosse, Wisconsin. Originally, it was recorded to 8-track MiniDisc and appeared on his debut collection, Comfortably Lost in Greenfield Vol. 1.
The new version of Sam’s Hill is a track chock full of groovy rhythms and a sense of jazziness. Monsoor’s vocals are understated in the verse, soft yet arresting while they deliver poetic lyrics. Licks of keys are delivered expressive by Paul Brandt while traces of electric guitar by Courtney Hartman are a particular highlight.
Joining them on the track are Pat Keen on bass and JT Bates on drums. Sam’s Hill is out now and you can give it a listen below.
