Icelandic singer-songwriter Rós’s third album is jazz and R&B-infused pop. The collection starts out stripped-back and soulful before finding some bright, upbeat moments like Share u… and …guess it would.
“The album means a lot to me.” Rós says. “I gave myself time to rediscover my sound as a musician and Magnus [Dagsson] and I spent a lot of time arranging the music together with my band. This is by far the favourite album that I have worked on during my career. When I was writing the songs, I went back to old diaries and unreleased songs in search of untold stories from my past, keeping the songs close to my heart and personal. The song titles flow together forming a chain of thought, when the mind keeps wandering from one thought to another.”
We get love and heartbreak over its nine tracks, all beautifully emoted by Rós’s captivating vocals. Curtain Call is a great showcase of her range. The way u… is a deliciously delicate and sultry moment, as is …real love. Final track Love & Affirmation rounds off the album’s story well, seeing Rós team up with Bergrós for a moment of self love.
Silja Rós has been delighting us with her music for years on our blog. In 2022 she graced our pages for the first time with her single and video, Lie Just To Lie and was part of Jane’s Vibes round up. Last year saw two of her singles feature. There’s something so captivating about her music which means we keep coming back for more.
…letters from my past is out now via Iceland’s Alda Music. You can give it a listen below.
