Turning his attention to the medical epidemic that is gripping the USA, Pills is the hard-hitting new single and video from Nathaniel Paul.

Pills is a soulful and vulnerable track. Confessional lyrics are tempered by the soft but punchy instrumental and, as ever, Paul’s vocals are arresting, especially as things get lively and memorable in the chorus.

The simplicity of its video is powerful. It’s shot statically on the beach with Nathaniel looking ponderously out to sea as he performs. As things kick up a notch in the instrumental, and movement is added to the video in a surprise twist.

“This song isn’t anti-medicine,” says Paul. “It’s about the way we’re conditioned to treat discomfort as something to be erased instead of understood. Pills is a mirror held up to the way we cope.”
