Discovery: Matthew Orgel bares all with emotional new pop EP

Matthew Orgel opens up with a personal new collection exploring sexuality and much more, The Best Things.

By Graeme Smith

The Best Things is an EP that offers bright yet heart-wrenching pop that’s soulfully delivered by Orgel. A disco groove hits nicely in the chorus of EP opener I Could Be Him. Its lyrics speak of envy, but there’s an ironic subtly to them.

Orgel is unafraid to go darker in Devil In Me while juxtaposing it with the summery beats of Here We Go Again. The latter’s lyrics full of yearning and a certain realism make it a highlight. The EP finishes with a happy ending thanks to the heart-warming and reflective title track, The Best Things.

The Best Things is six tracks full of tales of messy love and introspection. In it, Orgel really lets himself be vulnerable and that makes it a compelling listen, and infinitely relatable to anyone who’s been on the sharp end of lust, love, or a broken heart. The EP is beautifully produced, giving us a polished sound that fits right into the world of modern pop. I’m certain this record will win Orgel more than a few fans.
