Feeling like an album we need right now, Philadelphia, USA-based Bedolina’s Sun and Flamingos has caught my attention.
By Graeme Smith
Full of clever lyrics that skewer nostalgia and are full of self-effacement, Sun and Flamingos is an astute collection of eleven tracks that demand a listen.
Sonically, it’s indie rock, but we get a rich variety within that. Hard rock moments are contrasted by gentle acoustic ones like The Castle and Matches Alight.
Marie is a highlight that’s full of love while Iron Falls is full of soul. We Are the Clock Ourselves Again is a driving anthem reminiscent of Arcade Fire, a comparison that can also be applied to the late-album track, Dolphin. The album ends with the moody experimental folk of Interdimensional Parasites.
Suns and Flamingos is one for lovers of ’90s and ’00s indie rock, yet also has a modern outlook that plays well in 2025. Bedolina’s ability to cut right to the heart of the matter with their lyrics means each listen unveils something new about its observational story, while the instrumentals give us something familiar yet different.
If you like bands like Brand New, The National or the aforementioned Arcade Fire, you’re going to find a lot to love about their new album.
Suns and Flamingos is set for release 30 May 2025. You can pre-save it here.
