Influenced by the likes of Mike Skinner of The Streets, Blipboi is a Ripon-based artist who is new to our blog through is album, IN ALL I’VE FAILED TO DO.

Blipboi’s new album combines electronic beats with edgy, spoken word vocals. It feels modern in the purest sense of the word, full of contemporary malaise and tongue-in-cheek storytelling. The compositions feel humorous while also making an important, irreverent point. All the while, a variation of instrumental layers toys with our senses.

I SHOULD’VE is a moody, R&B moment that’s rich with visceral narrative. The confessional EARPHONES proves a late highlight before things end with melancholia thanks to lingering closer, BLIND LEAD THE BLIND.

Lyrically, the album at times feels personal and at times, political. “This is the rawest and realest I’ve ever been in my musical journey!” Blipboi says, unashamedly wearing his neurodivergence as a badge of honour throughout.

As well as the aforementioned The Streets, Blipboi’s music is reminiscent of recent York Calling discovery Polite Bureau due to its combination of Northern storytelling and experimentation.

Mostly self crafted, the album was made in collaboration with Jude Graham for the track FAUX LIFE (many times). It was recorded in Blipboi’s childhood home.
