Saturn in Chinos is a pulsating and haunting experimental number that combines organic layers with edgy electronica. Barely-there vocals captivate, running through the instrumental like a gentle river. They deliver lyrics that are full of imagery as the instrumental rises and falls pleasantly. As the track crosses the threshold to its second half, things get more out there with the lows becoming lower and the highs more soaring.
The video, directed and produced by Leong Chan with artistic consultation from Genevieve Sovereign’s long-time movement coach and multidisciplinary artist friend Jessica Angelique Gabrielli, sees Sovereign performing in cosmic darkness and contrasting natural backdrops in two locations in Melbourne, Australia, providing the perfect accompaniment to the atmospheric track.
Saturn in Chinos is the lead single of the Ontario, Canada-born artist’s new album STARSEEDS WANTED: enquire within which is out now and available to buy as a digital album on Bandcamp. Sovereign chose the track as the album’s lead single “..both because of how much it means to me personally, as well as how perfectly it encapsulates what I’ve hoped to achieve for the album. Not only does it chronicle vital parts of my own journey as an artist and a human, but this piece’s evolution has manifested some truly humbling accomplishments – such as being my first ever professionally shot music video – and also having the honour of Becki Whitton (aka Aphir) as its producer.”
The single is out now and you can give it a listen below.
